The only reason I have a satellite dish is so that I can watch Walking by Faith. I enjoy Pastor Duane's teaching so much.

Sowing seed in times of famine...

Like most people, I have been thinking and praying about the current economic situation, and my thoughts have turned to the historical account of Isaac sowing in a time of famine. Here is a condensed version, but I encourage you to open your Bible and read the whole passage.

"Now there was a famine in the land, besides the famine that occurred in the days of Abraham...the Lord appeared to Isaac and said, 'Do not go down to Egypt...stay in the land and I will bless you, for to you and your descendents will I give this land...' So Isaac remained at Gerar...and sowed in the land and reaped in the same year a hundred fold, and the Lord blessed him, and the man became rich, and continued to grow richer, until he became very wealthy" (Genesis 26:1-13).

It doesn't make sense to the natural mind to sow seed during a time of famine, yet that is exactly what God instructed Isaac to do! That is because future harvests do not exist without present sowing. We reap what we sow, and we only reap if we have sown.

The Apostle Paul knew this truth and boldly shared it with the people he served, saying:

"...He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed... Now He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness..." (2 Corinthians 9:6-9).

Many, many wonderful things are happening as a result of Walking By Faith's broadcasts, and we are not going to let the economy cause us to pull back. Instead, we are practicing what we preach.

Throughout 2009, Walking By Faith will continue to make broadcasting in the 10/40 window (where 95% of all unevangelized people live) a priority while also reaching the US and over 170 nations of the world with the Gospel. We are going to continue to keep sowing the seed of the Word during this season of famine, knowing that in due season we will reap a harvest. (Galatians 6:7-9).
