Who’s #1

“One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.” Psalm 27:4

Who, or what is most important in your life? If it is a person, is it your spouse, your parents, your kids, or your friends? If not a person, is it your house, your dream car, your dream job, or something else entirely? What if I told you, as Believers, we are called to hold one person and one thing above all else. Of course, you may be thinking, “I know what you’re going to say: Jesus Christ.” In short, yes, that is the correct answer; but let me ask you another question: have you internalized that answer and applied it to your life?

Here’s the thing, saying that Jesus Christ is the center of our lives and serving Him is the most important thing, but it is another thing entirely to internalize and live it out. You see, every day there is an Enemy that tries to pull your attention in any other direction than your relationship with Jesus Christ. So often the Enemy takes things from our past and tries to pull us back into old habits, old relationships, and old ways of thinking. Yet Jesus remains the same and will not walk away from you.

The good news is that Jesus has sent a Helper, the Holy Spirit to live within all Believers. Scripture tells us that through the blood of Jesus Christ, our pasts are forgiven and we are washed white as snow. The chains that tied our souls to the things of this world are broken, and He has paid the cost for our sins. He has brought us back into a right relationship with Him where we no longer live in the bondage of sin, but can instead choose to live with and for Him.

This week, let’s ask for the Holy Spirit to lead us to a place where we can live out a life that places Jesus Christ at the center of our hearts, minds, and souls.
