Many people believe that God is able to heal, but do you think that He is willing to heal or still heals today? What you believe about healing will not only change your life, it could save your life! God doesn’t want anyone to be confused about His will, and you need to know that His will has never changed. Hebrews 13:8 declares that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He was and still is the God of miracles! Because of what Jesus accomplished at the cross, healing is available to you today.
Christ the Healer
And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people. Then His fame went throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and torments, and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics; and He healed them.
- Matthew 4:23-24
Have you ever noticed Jesus’s healing pattern throughout the Gospels? Wherever He went, He healed them all. He did not pick and choose like the children’s game Duck, Duck, Goose. Never once did Jesus turn someone away who asked for healing. Hebrews 1:3 tells us that Jesus is the express and perfect image of God. Because He is the perfect reflection of God, He behaved and spoke in perfect theology. He performed many miracles and healed many people because it was God’s heart to see them all healed!
What does that mean for you today? Hebrews 13:8 tells us that God is the same yesterday, today and forever. It was His will to heal then, and it is His will to heal now. Revelation 19:10 tells us that the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy – what He has done before, He will do again!
Healing for Today
“A leper came to Him, imploring Him, kneeling down to Him and saying to Him, “If You are willing, You can make me clean.” Then Jesus, moved with compassion, stretched out His hand and touched him, and said to him, “I am willing; be cleansed.” As soon as He had spoken, immediately the leprosy left him, and he was cleansed.”
- Mark 1:40-42
Many people have believed that everything that happens is God’s will, but when sin entered the world, the devil was given an open door. Do not be mistaken—sickness, pain, and illness are not from God. He can make something good out of any situation, but God does not give you bad things. James 1:17 says, Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. And Matthew 7:11 says, If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him! We have a good Father!
When you are in need of healing, the first thing you need to know is that God wants you to be healed and well. It is not His will for you to be in pain and suffering. It is the will of the enemy to kill, steal, and destroy, but God wants to give you abundant life (John 10:10). He has promised healing to those who believe—by His stripes, you were healed (Isaiah 53:5). If you have been born again, you are an heir to God’s promises of healing.
There are over 7,000 promises in the Bible that God makes to us as His children. And in 2 Corinthians 1:20, we are assured that these promises are “yes and amen” in Him. His promises are for you and available to you today!
So how can we receive these promises? As a child of God, you have already been given these precious promises. All things—your natural life and your spiritual life—are covered by the redemption that Jesus paid for on the cross. It is easy to feel undeserving when God wants to bless you, but His gifts are not based on your performance. We do not qualify based on our merit, but by His grace.
Receiving Healing
We know that it is God’s will that you are healed and whole, but our unbelief can limit what He can do in our lives. Mark 6:5-6 says, Now He could do no mighty work there, except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them. And He marveled because of their unbelief. These verses do not say He would not, but that He could not—the people’s unbelief stopped God’s will from happening in their lives.
So, how can you fill your heart with faith and drive out unbelief? The Bible tells us in Romans 10:17, Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. Faith grows as we read God’s Word and meditate on His power and goodness. Stop and think: what are you pouring more of into your heart: fear or faith? In Psalm 91, King David is praising the safety and peace of mind that comes from diligently seeking and abiding in the presence of God.
As you meditate on His Word, write down, memorize, and speak aloud God’s promises on healing. Focus your attention on the faithfulness of God, and squash any unbelief lingering in your heart. Romans 10:8 says, …“The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart”… Your faith should start in your heart and come out of your mouth. Start speaking in faith!
It is God’s will that you are healed and live in the favor and blessing He wants to give you. However, if you do not experience healing in the way you expected, it can be difficult to understand and keep your faith. You are not going to understand everything that happens in the spiritual realm, but do not throw away what you know to be true because of what you do not understand. Build your faith for healing as you meditate on His Word and speak in faith.
Praying for Others
And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
- Mark 16:17-18
As a believer, you are called to live a purposeful life. You have been qualified by Jesus to build the Kingdom of God everywhere you go. But what does the Kingdom look like? The Kingdom of God is established where His will is done. God desires that His children know Him, are healed, and live free from pain and brokenness. As a believer, you can build the Kingdom by sharing the gospel, declaring healing for those around you, and walking in the freedom you found in Christ. The people in your life are longing to see God in you.
Healing, deliverance, and freedom are part of your inheritance as a believer. These things are available in your life, but they are also part of how you can build the Kingdom on earth.
In the Name of Jesus, you have the authority to lay hands on the sick and see them recover. What a blessing! You were saved for a purpose. Jesus didn’t die just to get you into heaven, He wanted to get heaven into you!
