PREPARING FOR HEAVEN

So teach us to number our days that we may gain a heart of wisdom.  -Psalm 90:12

As believers, the lives we live today are meant to prepare us for eternity. The Bible reminds us that our days on earth are short compared to the endless life we will experience with Christ. In order to be prepared, we are called to gain a heart of wisdom and live with eternity in mind.

Being prepared for heaven means living with God at the center of our lives. Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:19-20 not to lay up treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, but to lay up treasures in heaven. This means our focus should be on things that have eternal significance—things like loving others, sharing the Gospel, and serving others in ways that glorify God. When we prioritize God’s kingdom, we are investing in a future that will never fade.

In Luke 16, Jesus tells the story of two men who died. One was a rich man who lived only for himself and ignored God. The other, Lazarus, was a poor man who suffered greatly on earth but remained faithful. When they died, Lazarus was carried by angels to Abraham’s side, while the rich man found himself in torment. The rich man had lived as though this life was all that mattered, only to realize too late that he had missed what was truly important.

Now is the time to make sure your heart is right with God because there is no turning back once you step into eternity. By seeking God’s wisdom and living with kingdom purposes in mind, you will be fully prepared for the life that awaits you in heaven.
